Q:

The figure below shows a shaded region and a nonshaded region. Angles in the figure that appear to be right angles are right angles. What is the area, in square feet, of the shaded region?Enter your answer in the box.       square feetWhat is the area, in square feet, of the nonshaded region?Enter your answer in the box.          square feet

Accepted Solution

A:
Area of the Rectangle is A=L*W (Length * Width).
The Length is: 16 Sqr Ft
The With is: 8 Sqr Ft
Knowing this we can get the total area of: 128 Sqr FT.
You then can use that to find the total area of the shaded Area, then subtract that from the total area, giving you the non-shaded regions Area.

The Area of the Blue Figure is: 16
The Area of the orange figure is: 10
The Area of the yellow figure is harder to find because it's a right triangle. The formula for that is A*B/2.
While there's no information on the Triangle, we can assume that the length is 10, same as the orange, and it's 3 Sqr ft wide.(Since the orange is 1 ft wide and not 2, and it HAS TO BE A TOTAL OF 8 FT.)
The Area of the Triangle is then 15. Combine the total footage and you get 41 Sqr Ft.
Subtract that from the total of 128 and you get 87 Sqr Ft.
Thus the answers are:
Shaded- 41 Square Ft
Non-shaded- 87 Square ft.
